Burger King Overload

I feel like Morgan Spurlock, because for the past 2 weeks, I have been overdosing on Burger King. While I haven't made it my exclusive diet (yet), I've had more value meals at Burger King in the last couple of weeks than I have had during the previous few years. Why have I been visiting Burger Kings all over the Seattle area?

Simple. I'm trying to get all of the toys. So far, I have about 10 of the 40 or so that they're going to be releasing, so that means many more Burgers, Croissants and Chicken sandwiches to go before I'm done collecting them all. Of course, you can buy these without food purchase....but it just seems wrong to wait in a line at Burger King just to get to the counter and pick out the toys I don't have yet. It's bad enough being a 30 year old guy buying happy meal toys, but I'm sure it would be worse buying JUST the toys.

Besides, I love onion rings. Yub nub!

Musings from the couch

Yesterday I went to work but ended up coming home about halfway through the day because I still didn't feel too well. For some reason, I just haven't been able to shake this thing. Today, when I woke up, I was feeling really cruddy so I decided right from the start that I'd go ahead and telecommute. Right now, I'm feeling a little bit better, and I think no matter what I'm going to force myself to get back into gear tomorrow.

So, today, besides the meetings I had to phone into, the emails I had to write and the projects I've been working on from my bed/office, I've also been watching bad TV and impulse shopping. I was looking for Clerks figures I didn't own yet, and found a really good deal on the full set from Jay and Silent Bob Strike back. They were like 6 bucks each after shipping, because the cards were damaged. I didn't care, because I open everything anyway. A few minutes after paying for these things with Paypal, I found myself on the View Askew website. I wanted to see if they had any good deals on the figures I still need (they did not), or any news on Clerks 2 (which I did not see). A few links later, I am reading Kevin Smith's Blog. I've never read his blog before, but basically....it's exactly the same as the blogs of any of my other friends.

I've always thought that celebrities had these really exciting lives that were somehow better than the average day to day the rest of us live. I'm sure that's just years of entertainment television shows like "Cribs" and magazines like "People" telling me that, but turns out that's just not true.

Sure, Kevin Smith's blog had entries talking about how he was appearing in this movie, or working on that DVD....but most of it was talking about which shows he fell asleep to watching Tivo, or doing random errands like going to Starbucks for his wife. I read 4 or 5 entries and quickly discovered that this guy's little online journal was basically the same as those others I read that my friends write. I guess the big differences are he has a lot more famous friends. :-)
I suppose where I'm going with all of this is that I guess the "Grass is always greener" mentality only applies until you get to read that person's blog and realize they're life is pretty much the same stuff you have going on. Of course, they go through their days without the 9 to 5, with millions of extra dollars, thousands of fans...and of course those famous friends. But other than that, just the same.

The view that never was

It was a really nice day today. Despite still having this cold I can't get over, I got outside in the sunshine a bit during my commute. I ate dinner outside on the patio. I even walked out on my deck late tonight to enjoy the cool night air.

Had a couple of guests over tonight to watch Lost, and the one who had never been here before went on and on about how nice this house is. I'm not sure why over a year later I seem to be the only one who's no longer impressed.

I think sometimes I still wish we had bought that other place....with that wonderful view. Sure, it would have been smaller by almost more than 1400 square feet. Sure, there was less parking, and it was more expensive. Sure I'd probably hate the commute. But I still really liked that place.

Wonder if I'll ever get the chance (or take the chance) on a place like it again.

Observations of the sick day

Here I sit, home sick from work. When you're alone in the house for awhile, you start to notice things. Things like:

No matter what day it is, there will always be a Lethal Weapon or Die Hard movie on cable.

The dog doesn't move around much.

I really should take those last few pieces of painter's tape off the living room ceiling, but not until I feel better (at which point I'll go back to not noticing them).

A watched teapot never boils, but that's only because you have it on the wrong burner.

The commercials on daytime television assume that you are either unemployed, injured, elderly or really into cleaning products. Apparently no one that does not fit into one of these categories ever watches TV during the day.

Lunch isn't just going to make itself.

Paying for the Star Wars line in retrospect

I spent most of Wednesday in line waiting for Star Wars. Many people who understand me and my obsession might think that this is a strange thing to do, considering it's only a movie. However, even some of the people that do know me were a little perplexed when they found out that I had actually already seen the movie at a preview screening the previous week and was still waiting all day in line for it to open at midnight anyway. Looking back, even I think it's a little strange.

Nevertheless, I spent my Wednesday out in a bunch of lawn chairs with a group of friends that slowly grew to 25 or so before the night was over. We braved the thunder and lightning with umbrellas and rain gear while we had pizza, drinks and other snacks to keep us busy. Most of us brought costumes and when we got into them, we were on several different newscasts during the day. Finally at 10:30pm, they let us into the theater and at the stroke of midnight we got to see the movie once again (but for the first time with a big audience). It was of course great, and was the 2nd of 4 times I've seen it so far.

I'll definitely remember the day for a long time. Especially now, because it appears I've come down with a little virus or something that some friendly fan must have been nice enough to bring along. I've got a sore throat, and a bit of a cold. Nothing life-threatening, but I'll probably need another day of rest or so because of it.

Was it all worth it? Yeah....I had a great time. Would I do it again? Hmmmm. Only if Lucas releases another Star Wars movie. That remote possibility aside, I think I've just camped in my last movie line.
